OUTDOOR HARD LEATHER BALL RULES

MODIFICATIONS from the LAWS OF CRICKET

  • Each team bats for a set period of time (80 minutes) or 20 overs.

  • Each bowler will be limited to 4 overs.

  • Ball - Hard Leather Ball (White - Black Ash Sports)

  • Fielding Restrictions: First 6 overs - Powerplay - Only 2 Fielders allowed outside of the Fielding Restriction Area (30 yards). For the remaining overs 4 fielders must be within the Fielding Restriction Area at all times. See Diagram Below

  • WIDE and NO BALL - ICC Standard Applies

  • WIDE delivery: Any bowled ball that passes outside of the wide marker or behind the batter will be considered WIDE. It will result in 1 RUNS (plus any additional runs completed by the batters) being scored for the batting side. The ball will count towards the bowler’s total. A batter can be OUT - Stumped on a WIDE ball. Note: After the 3rd WIDE bowled in the over, any subsequent WIDE deliveries will count as 2 RUNS to the batter.

  • NO BALL: If the bowler oversteps the bowling line, “throws” or “chucks” the ball, or bowls the ball over the batter’s waist. “NO BALL” is called, the batter can score runs without risk of being OUT (except by run out), plus 1 RUN penalty. The ball will count in the bowler’s total. The next ball will be a FREE HIT - which means the batter can play the ball without fear of being dismissed - except by run out. If the bowler’s over ends before the FREE HIT, the 1st ball of the next over will be a FREE HIT.

  • Innings Last Over - Umpire will declare the last over with 4 minutes left in the innings. Both the bowler and batters will be informed. All WIDE balls will be rebowled.

  • BYES: runs taken because the ball is missed by the wicketkeeper.

  • LEG BYES: runs taken because the batter offered a shot, but missed and the ball hit their legs and rolled to a safe spot.

  • The batter is OUT when bowled, caught, run out, stumped  or hit wicket

  • Leg before wicket (LBW) will be enforced fully (TBD) or only on deliberate blocking of the wickets.
